A modern-style safari camp that wouldn’t look out of place in an architecture magazine, Vumbura Plains is designed and operated in total empathy with its diverse surroundings. Partnerships with local communities in this region of the Okavango Delta have created empowerment opportunities while allowing guests access to its many treasures. Fourteen light, airy guest rooms feature designer fittings and touches of unabashed luxury, including private plunge pools and salas, and indoor and outdoor showers. Safari activities focus on day and night game drives through a variety of game-rich terrains. Seasonal water activities can be very rewarding, to say nothing of a hot air balloon safari. INSIDER TIP: Secure a spot at the telescope for exceptional viewing of birds and wildlife. If you are lucky you may even catch a glimpse of the resident otter family!

Vumbura Plains is a luxury camp situated in the northern Okavango Delta, comprising two separate satellite camps, each with its own raised dining, lounge and bar area with a vista across the floodplains. The main area emphasises relaxation, furnished as it is with soft sofas and idiosyncratic objets d’art.

The 14 rooms, raised off the ground, are unique in contemporary design; the dimensions are square, with extensive use of light, wood and space. Each suite has a large, comfortable bedroom, sunken lounge with cushions, sala, en-suite facilities, an outdoor shower, private deck and plunge pool. Two family suites are also on offer with private decks linking the two separate rooms. Vumbura Plains offers both land and water activities, principally game viewing in varied habitats on open vehicles, mekoro and boats, providing an excellent all-round experience. The concession is leased from five villages through the Okavango Community Trust in a partnership that ensures that the benefits of ecotourism are shared with rural stakeholders.

NOTE: Ballooning offered from mid-April to September.

Vumbura Plains Campfire Sitting area

Vumbura Plains Camp borders the Moremi Game Reserve in the north of the Okavango Delta. This lavish safari camp is shaded by a thick canopy of trees and raised on wooden platforms, offering splendid views of the lush Okavango Delta terrain.
Named an eco-retreat, the emphasis at Vumbura Plains is on ensuring a relaxed Botswana holiday within a magnificent stretch of wilderness. Even the walls of your enormous private shower are constructed from floor-to-ceiling glass to allow you tranquil views of herds of grazing impala or passing zebras.
Vumbra Plains Camp has seven cavernous suites, spaced well apart and raised up on decks. These suites really are luxurious, even by Botswana accommodation standards, each with its own very private plunge pool and deck, and lots of safari-chic touches. High wooden walkways link the suites at Vumbura Plains with the central areas.
Vumbura Plains offers a wide choice of activities including day and night 4WD game drives, mokoro trips and sometimes short walks – although because of the density of big game, walks are always at the discretion of the guides and managers. When water levels allow, there's a deep-water channel nearby for motorboat trips.
Vast herds of elephants and buffalo abound, as well as zebra, wildebeest and a particularly large range of antelope, including red lechwe, impala and tsessebe, kudu and sable. The birds are equally varied, ranging from pink pelicans to mopane specialists such as red-billed hornbills.
