The 11 kulalas (chalets) at this ultra-luxurious lodge are kept cool through their clever design and essential air-conditioning – the accommodation merges into the browns and reds of the surrounding desert landscape. Think plunge pools, outdoor showers, neutral decor, wicker furniture, natural textures – wonderful reflections of the Dead Vlei outside. Choose to sleep out under the stars on a private rooftop! Little Kulala Camp is only 17 kilometers from Sesriem inside the private 37 000 hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve.

Little Kulala is the closest luxury desert retreat to the famous, seen-from-space Sossusvlei dunes. Guests enjoy exclusive private concession access, and the camp’s location makes early morning dune visits (to see Sossusvlei at its best) very easy. Eleven climate-controlled thatched ‘kulalas’ each have a private plunge pool, rooftop ‘star bed’ and luxury fittings including indoor and outdoor showers. In terms of colour and form, Little Kulala blends seamlessly into the desert landscape. Activities make the most of the solitude and stark beauty of the Namib Desert, with nature drives and guided walks revealing the majesty and mystery of the sand sea. INSIDER TIP: Experience the desert from new heights… A hot air balloon ride provides awe-inspiring views of the dramatic scenery below.

This desert retreat is situated on the dry Auab riverbed in the Kulala Wilderness Reserve. The 11 climate-controlled, thatched “kulalas” merge seamlessly into the timeless desert landscape, with exquisite fittings and fixtures, and each with a private plunge pool. The extensive use of neutral colours, gorgeous textures and natural light reproduce the soothing pastel tones of the desert. Each villa has a rooftop Star Bed for romantic star gazing, with both indoor and outdoor showers. An elegant entertainment area includes al fresco fine dining as a highlight.

Varied activities aim at acquainting guests with the splendour, solitude and stark beauty of the Namib Desert, with excursions to Sossusvlei (via our own private gate exclusive to Wilderness Safaris vehicles), and nature drives and walks providing awe-inspiring views of desert-adapted wildlife and plants. A balloon safari (at extra cost) offers a unique experience soaring silently above the desert, while eco-sensitive quad biking explores this beautiful area on the ground.

Little Kulala Camp Pool Deck

Situated near Sossusvlei, between the vast sand dunes and sprawling deserts of southern Namibia, Little Kulala Camp is only 17 kilometres from Sesriem inside the private 37 000 hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve.
This luxury Namibian resort offers intimate service and glorious accommodation as soon as guests drive in past the huge pile of boulders and start a holiday of a lifetime.
The 11 kulalas are kept as cool as possible through their clever design and essential air-conditioning – the accommodation merges into the browns and reds of the surrounding desert landscape. Think plunge pools, outdoor showers, neutral decor, wicker furniture, natural textures – wonderful reflections of the Dead Vlei outside. Choose to sleep out under the stars on a private rooftop!
Built on three levels, the main areas are designed under peaked thatched roofs reflecting the Sossusvlei dunes outside.  White washed wooden floors, diverse use of textures and colours, contrasting with the browns and reds of the desert outside and the green of the camelthorns growing thickly nearby.
The open plan building is curved for relaxation while large mirrors placed strategically create the illusion of even more space. Enjoy the tea room, the bar and many seating areas along curved stone walls – the lounge steps out onto a partly covered thatched deck some of which wind around camel thorn trees. Sample a romantic meal for two in the wine cellar in amongst lines of fine wines and champagne bottles.
Relax in the library where scatter cushions and local baskets adorn the floors. The small egg-shaped pool is great for cooling off in and guests can enjoy dinners on the shaded deck beside the pool.
Set off on exciting game drives in the early mornings to hopefully see bat-eared foxes, black-backed jackals, elusive aardwolfs, gemsbok and springbok. Drive to Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon or set off through the gate into the Namib-Naukluft National Park. Nature walks and trails are fantastic but hot! Early morning balloon excursions can also be arranged.
