Rocktail Beach Camp is situated within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, nestled in the lush Maputaland Coastal Forest blanketing the ancient dunes that make up the edge of South Africa’s KwaZulu Natal coast.

The blue waters and endless golden sands of the Maputaland Marine Reserve provide the setting for adventures including underwater exploration and watching huge turtles nest on the beaches in summer. Situated 20 minutes from the beach in a lush dune forest, Rocktail has 16 en-suite rooms (of which six are family rooms with shared bathroom and two bedrooms, and one is the honeymoon suite). The central dining and lounge areas feature a wraparound veranda, a large pool, sunny deck and curio shop. Activities include some of the best SCUBA diving and snorkelling in the world, and the kind of family activities that create perfect childhood memories. INSIDER TIP: Discover fascinating underwater wonders on a ‘game drive’ at sea. Be on the lookout for bottlenose dolphins, mantra rays, turtles and whale sharks.

A range of family-friendly activities build wonderful childhood memories, and Ocean Safaris are the best way to explore the waters. World-class diving is conducted along coral reefs accessible only to Dive Centre guests, with snorkelling at Lala Nek for the whole family. Excursions are available to Lake Sibaya, Tembe Elephant Park and the local community, where guests can observe authentic aspects of Zulu and Tonga culture through architecture, food and traditional lifestyles.

During summer, guests can join our guides on a night Turtle Drive, with a good chance of seeing nesting turtles.
