Borana Lodge derives its name from the native Boran cows popular in the arid grasslands of the plateau. The 35,000-acre ranch sits within a cosmic conservation area that benefits the locals both economically and socially while promoting the preservation of the natural environment.
Built in 1992 by the locals using only local building materials and dead wood from the ranch, the 8 cottages of this stunning Mount Kenya accommodation are designed to blend effortlessly with the landscape. The interiors are superbly decorated with simple, clean furnishings, and the result is an unassuming luxury.
2 of the cottages are family units with double rooms. No 2 rooms are the same but all offer airy spaces with large en-suite bathrooms that feature baths, walk-in showers, twin wash basins and toiletries to boot. The cottages have fireplaces and private verandas that look out over a busy watering hole. In each room is a hairdryer, safe and wireless internet.
Approximately 8km from Borana Safari Lodge is the luxurious 8 bedroomed Laragai House that is bookable on an exclusive use basis. This Mount Kenya guest house is a real gem for guests who relish their privacy. Laragai House boasts a clay tennis court, heated pool, outdoor lunch areas including a DVD library, satellite TV and Wi-Fi.
The public areas of Borana include an open-sided lounge and bar with comfy cushioned sofas, animal paintings and African furniture.
