Enjoy an old African-style safari where the focus is not on luxury but on the ultimate experience of nature’s finest. Whether you spend your days in the heart of the untouched wilderness seeking out game or floating on the water trying to hook tiger fish, you are guaranteed a Caprivi Strip experience that is second to none.
Ndhovu Safari Lodge is a peaceful riverine retreat overlooking the well-known Caprivi Game Park (Bwabwata National Park). In true safari tradition, Ndhovu Safari Lodge offers luxury tented accommodation, each tent being fully equipped with its own en-suite bathroom facilities. For the adventurous type, there is a Rivertent on the water. Here guests can feel real close to crocodiles and hippos, relax in the sun on the deck or try catching the famous tigerfish. In addition, there is an exclusive camping area. Facilities offered at the lodge includes sundowner cruises, fishing excursions, village tours and game drives whilst the birdlife in the area will satisfy the most ardent bird-watcher - over 400 different species have been recorded in the surroundings.
Opened in 1989, Ndhovu Safari Lodge is the oldest establishment of its kind on the Okavango River. The area is home to large game such as elephant and hippo and to more than 400 different bird species such as the black-crowned night heron, purple gallinule and carmine bee-eater – heaven for any ornithologist. Ndhovu Safari Lodge also offers houseboat safaris on the mighty Okavango. During the rainy season the area around the lodge is very often flooded; then Ndhovu is transformed into an island on the Okavango.
Established soon after Namibia gained independence in 1989, Ndhovu Safari Lodge is the oldest lodge in the Caprivi Strip, on the Okavango River. Situated right next to the admired Mahango Game Reserve, this luxury tented camp is surrounded by water for three months of the year, an island in the Okavango Delta due to rich rains and full rivers.
Rustic yet luxurious accommodation in the heart of the Caprivi Strip in northern Namibia at Ndhovu Safari Lodge is in nine fully-equipped tents with verandas overlooking the Okavango River. One tent ‘floats’, ideal for honeymoon couples, and another tent has three beds for a family group. All tents boast en-suite bathrooms with stunning views over the river from the beds.
Only one lucky tourist gets to book the special camp site for roughing it under thick trees, surrounded by the sounds of nature.
At the main lodge, guests can sit at the lovely thatched lapa and its wooden deck that extends into the river where elephants, hippos and buffalos come down to drink. There is also a swimming pool surrounded by lovely lawns and stately trees, a bar and restaurant where buffet meals are served - all focussed on the bush experience.
While relaxing at Namibia’s Ndhovu Safari Lodge, take a boat cruise along the border of the Caprivi National Game Park to see fantastic game – the Mahango National Park is another area well worth visiting to see Sable, Roan, Letchwe, Reed Buck, Tsessebe Antelope as well as lions and leopards.
Intrepid fishermen can try to lure that big Tiger Fish or Barbel and Nembwe. Walk around a local village with a guide to learn more about the Hambakushu people.
