CULTURES AND HISTORY
The city buzzes with a cosmopolitan vibe, home to some 230 000 inhabitants. Meet Herero, Owambo, Damara, Kavango, Buster, Nama, San and Afrikaans people.
The city grew around a permanent spring where indigenous pastoral people gathered for water. It started to develop in 1890 when German army Major, Curt von Francois, officially founded the city.
